Janet is the network dedicated to the needs of research and education in the UK. It connects the UK’s research and education institutions to each other, as well as to the rest of the world through links to the global Internet. In addition to the physical network. Janet also provides a number of support services including Janet Training, which provides a portfolio of training courses and an online learning facility for their customers.
Janet asked us to design two learning objects to support delegates attending their new IPv6 course. These objects would provide useful revision for learners following the face-to-face training.
Using the course workbook, we put together two full graphic storyboards:
- A summary of the development of IPv6 and how it has been integrated into networking technology and operating systems over the years. This used hover animations that provided key dates and information.
- An outline of IP addresses, how these can be abbreviated, how they are presented in a URL and how they relate to IPv4 address. To achieve this we showed authentic IPv6 and demonstrated onscreen how these could be broken down.
These resources were then developed by a Janet elearning developer in consultation with us.
To date, these resources have been accessed by 60% of the delegates attending the face-to-face course.
“All phases of the projects have been completed within the very ambitious timescale, and recommendations and reports have been excellent and clearly laid out. Gill has always shown great enthusiasm and drive and has been very flexible, incorporating changes and recommending different paths where she thought they would benefit the projects.”
